20 Benefits of Detoxification

Feeling sluggish? Foggy? Unfocused? You may need to detox! 

Over time, chemicals build up in our body and cause disruption to normal, healthy functions. Toxins reduce energy production, sleep, focus, hormone production and can lower moods. For every toxin your body is trying to get rid of, it may need 3 or 4 nutrients to help detox it. This causes major stress on the liver, immune system and cardiovascular system. The best way to detox is to increase nutrient status. So, it's best not to do a crazy strict detox program or take too many detox supplements at once. These strategies can sometimes have temporary benefits, but can also be dangerous and overall nutrient status can be damaged. The best way to detox is to increase your daily intake of fiber and nutrients through fruits and veggies (ideally to 5-9 daily), and take a good multi-vitamin. Oh, and drink your water! There are a few other fancy nutrients that I recommend to the clients that I coach, but the basics can also be effective as long as you are consistent and patient.

1. More energy for everyday life. Chemicals drain energy, so when you  get rid of them, you have more energy. This can be a very early benefit of detox, and it can stay with you for a long time!

2. Weight loss through faster metabolism. Toxins slow down our metabolism. When we reduce exposure or take them out of our body, we can often lose weight where we may have been gaining it previously. 

3. Improved moods...on any day of the month. Chemicals can interfere with hormones and moods for women, especially around cycle time. However, lowering the toxic load of the body can boost moods and help balance hormones on any day of the month. 

4. Decreased heart attack risk. Toxins and chemicals have been directly related to sick hearts, sick arteries and heart attacks. Reducing exposure is the first step, but eating more organic fruits and vegetables, and less red meat would also be advised. 

5. Improved cardio health for better workouts. This is one of my personal favorites. As the heart gets healthier, and circulation improves, you will notive better energy for your work outs and even better endurance!

6. Deeper sleep so you feel better tomorrow. Better hormone balance also includes sleep hormones. 

7. Reduced risk of cancer...most kinds. Most of us know that chemicals and toxins are directly related to cancer. If you reduce exposure and detox your body, your risk of cancer truly can be reduced drastically.
